Corn-ucopia

Well this week's post is all about corn.

Because this is corn growing season in this part of the world and it's in many a field I pass-by...it's quite spectacular seeing those tall green stems growing towards the sky - taller than moi! Corn has been the staple here of the first peoples here and the second peoples....and more recently myself (I am munching on a corn cob every few days - and when it's fresh it only takes a few minutes to boil!). Today I had a corn cob with my friend Ani Kunzang. The colour of the corn in this local area is a paler yellow than the bright yellow corn I'm used to eating reflecting the diversity in the corn colour and type  here that we simply don't have in Australia.
When I was an exchange student studying at James Madison High School  a couple of crows flight from here, living with my North Carolina family (the Fountain-Johnson Clan) located at that time in Vienna, Virginia (it was 1977!), I ate a fair bit of corn  and I became very enamoured of  hush puppies, these fried ground corn delectables and corn cake served with the main meal. So here I am with a couple of local cobs as opposed to cobbers...and a close up view of corn in a field. When I pulled up to take this picture of corn in a local field my friend Holly pulled up behind me in her car thinking there might be something wrong. I explained that I was being a tourist! Holly smiled and nodded knowingly.
